Health care for medical personnel

Summary : procurement of protective suits and respiratory protection masks for medical personnel

BiH's impoverished health system has found the emergence of a pandemic, caused by a corona virus, with very scarce material resources needed to provide adequate medical services to the population. Both in the entire territory of BiH and in the Tuzla Canton, health care institutions were in short supply with basic protective equipment such as masks, gloves, visors and protective suits. After a while, by engagement of local manufacturing companies and receiving help from friendly countries, the situation has improved significantly, but it is still not even near satisfactory, when it comes to protective equipment for medical departments.

In a direct interview with the doctors of UKC Tuzla, as well as with the ambulance staff of the Tuzla Health Center, we came to the information that protective suits and respiratory protection masks are currently the biggest problem that the medical staff is facing. Not infrequently, three to four employees directly involved in working with patients share one outfit after a shift or use makeshift protective clothing.

The University Clinical Center (UKC) of Tuzla is the cornerstone of the health system of Tuzla Canton and beyond, whose health services are used by 450,000 residents of northeastern Bosnia. The Tuzla Health Center ambulance provides services to 120,000 Tuzla residents and the surrounding areas. Most frontline medical staff, certainly over 65%, do not have adequate protective clothing.

RC Tuzla wish  to contribute to the reduction of this problem. Funds raised by this project would be usedfor purchusing over 100 professional protective suits and masks for medical personnel, and donated  to the most exposed medical staff of the two mentioned institutions. This would protect our ''heroes in white'' and allow them to provide better medical service due to less exposure to COVID -19.
